Kaufmann<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sources by Sternklinik Bremen, Veritas Healths LLC &amp; iTEC Engineering \u2013 Page under Construction<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 1001px;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Introduction<br \/>\nPhenotypisation of the lumbar disks degenerative lesions was the topic of last 4 meetings of the ISSLS focus group on disc degeneration.<br \/>\nIn 2014 the focus was enlarged to the whole lumbar spine degeneration.<br \/>\nNo consensus exists for de\u001fnitions of di\u001eerent degenerative diseases nor for classi\u001fcation of these diseases.<br \/>\nThe existing scoring systems are usually limited to a single structure e.g. disc, facets, spinal canal, etc<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Purpose<br \/>\nThe aim of this study is to present a simple method to describe the normal and global radiological changes<br \/>\nof the lumbar spine and by that to get a tool for classi\u001fcation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Method<br \/>\nOur tool is derived from the TNM classi\u001fcation system used for tumors. It includes 10 main categories and for<br \/>\neach one up to 4 levels of modi\u001fers. The \u001fndings were encoded in a standardized manner summarized in table 1.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Results<br \/>\nIn a \u001frst trial 200 MR examinations of consecutive patients of di\u001eerent age and gender referred to MRI for<br \/>\nlumbar spine examination were encoded. The mean time for coding was 3 minutes. Examples of correlations<br \/>\nwere done with respect to age and gender..There was strong correlation of disc degeneration with age not<br \/>\nwith gender. There was no di\u001eerence in the frequency of protrusion and extrusion in the categories of age<br \/>\nand gender. The number of phenotypes done by algorithm is depending on the number of characteristics<br \/>\nintroduced in the system.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Conclusion<br \/>\nThe presented proposal for phenotypisation of changes of the lumbar spine seems to be a valuable tool to<br \/>\ndescribe these changes and allow to form groups of phenotypes. It can be the base to compare groups and<br \/>\nsubgroups and to allow correlations within the groups and subgroups.
